It all started so innocently and it’s only looking back on it all I realise that something wasn’t quite right and didn’t realise it was inappropriate behaviour. It was winter time as I had packed lunch I asked if my friends and me could stay in the classroom to eat our lunch. So I was surprised when he brought in a radio and let us listen to it through lunch.
At first it was just my friends and myself in the classroom but as time went on he started to just “pop ” in and out of the classroom. He sat and had his lunch with us saying it was boring in the canteen, this was to become a regular occurrence. He would join in on our conversations about the latest pop groups. He even started joining us in the canteen when we swapped to school meals, sitting at our table being part of the “gang”
As he got to know us he knew who walked home with who etc. So I was surprised when he asked to have a word with my friend and myself. He had recently enrolled in an Open University course and wanted us both to help him with some course work. Before I had time to answer and tell him I would miss my last bus home, he said he would give us both a lift home as I lived in the next street to my friend.
I am not sure why my friend was asked to help as he rarely spoke to her. It was always my opinion he seemed interested in. True to his word he did give us both a lift home and always insisted I sat at the back of the car. Then he started hanging round the cloakroom to “wait ” with us while we waited for our bus. There was one day I was taken ill at school and told to go home. I was sat in the cloakroom waiting for the bus, when he came up to me insisting he took me home as he had a free period.
When I told him I was moving he had the whole class throw me a leaving party. He wanted my new address but I never did pass it on to him.
Looking back now I realise all of this was very inappropriate behaviour. He was in authority and should have known better. I was very nieve 13 year old as I never saw what was happening.
