Your comment really helped I hope that I have the same determination as your mum. Yes you are right it is small steps. I’m in the denial stage of yes its happened but it hasn’t affected me, but of course it has.

In my personal life my Mother has had several strokes and my step-son has Autism, whilst in my professional life I research into the impact of living with a long-term condition. Your blog has really touched me on a personal and professional level, and I thank you for it. What I can share with you that may be of benefit is what I said to my mother who said similar things to you – with small steps you still travel great distances it just takes a little bit longer.

She used to get very angry about what this monster has done to her and her family, then one day she said something that I have never heard her say – she is very religious and has never cursed in front of me before, she said “I am not going to let this bastard get me down”. She said this as she tried to make herself a cup of tea and could not hold the cup, she used all her anger in a positive way and about 1 hour later she had made herself a cup of tea. A simple task but a great victory.
