My Daydream

My Daydream

May 1, 2011  |  Blog

Yesterday we went for a drive as we always do, to go and watch the trains (autistic trait). As it was such a beautiful day Mr Savvy decided to go further afield. We went down this road I asked him to pull into a caravan showroom. Now why I did this not sure, to be honest I am not lover of caravans at all.

We pulled in and I could see all these gleaming caravans, we thought we would go and have a look round a few. You know it was really nice just wandering round, inside its like wow as it is definitely a home from home. There are various layouts of the caravans but mostly are the same just the decor that changes. I actually fell in love with the thought of caravanning.

It’s been over 3 years since we had a holiday we used to go camping which the kids enjoyed but that is a definite no now as Gnome wouldn’t cope with how cold tents get in the night, he has severe trouble keeping his body temperature etc.
How great would it be to just hook up and go away for a weekend, just for a change of scenery. Also going away in school holidays would be so easy, the kids would be used to the caravan just the surroundings would be different. It would open up such a whole new world to us, a world that is so fun for the kids. Its not easy finding a holiday, there are a lot of factors to consider

* Location would the children cope, is it too crowded too noisy.

* Price for a holiday we have to pay for 2 rooms as there are 6 of us, making holidays way out of our budget

* Do they take autistic/disabled kids we have actually had a place that advised us not to book after telling them the kids were autistic.

* They wouldn’t cope in crowded airports or the noise of the planes would upset Perkie

* Booking around appointments as Gnome especially, has a lot of appointments with physio’s OT’s etc

With a caravan we would have the freedom to book where we wanted and not have to worry about the above factors.

As Perkie was sat on a settee he say I love this can we have one.

So now, this is my daydream for us to own our own caravan and be able to go where ever and whenever we like. So if anyone knows the 6 lottery numbers or knows of competitions for caravans can you let me know please. As I would LOVE to have a caravan. Now just got to do the hard bit and save up so we can give our 3 disabled children a chance of holidays and fun.

  1. I had a very similar discussion with my hubs about caravans. Although I would really love a holiday cottage!!! We can keep dreaming! Or do the lottery!

  2. Oh hun, that’s terrible that one place told you not to book with autistic children.
Did you complain? I would have.

I’m a big fan of caravanning.. Have you tried private renting of one? We’re going to Weymouth in June and have a private caravan. It’s a 6 berth and cost us under £400 for 7 nights. :)
If you’re interested I can pass on the details.. :)

    • Thanks for your comment.

I did send them an email but learnt not to bother telling people again

Oh hope you have a lovely time if you could send me some info that will be great thanks x

  3. Hope you get your wish sweetheart x

  4. Have one, have three kids with needs, love it, am in it until Tuesday this week and will spend 6 weeks of school holidays in ours.

We have had our caravan for three seasons now. The kids have freedom and friends they would never have at home and we go away every bank holiday and school holiday time. Always new friends to make. Tis a popular passtime now. There are some really cheap and dry vans that you can use for your first season to find out if you like it.

Gumtree and ebay and local papers mean you can often pick up some bargains, but do your homework on what to look for when you go to view one, ie take a damp meter and use this site forum to work out what you need to know.

Join and ask as many questions as you like. You really can do it on a budget, or for a fortune. A clean, dry old van is all you need to start off with. Ours is big as we have 6 to sleep, but it depends on the ages of your kids on the layout that is best. I would always say go for a budget first to see if you like it.

    • Thank you very much .

Thats what i am thinking how much freedom we can have, I want them to be able to enjoy school holidays instead of it being a constant battle.

Thanks for the site will go and take a look and see what we need to make our dream come true .

So pleased your able to get away it will give you a very needed break/change . I like the way you are not tied to one site as well
