This post is about my little boy Zak, who is now 3 years old but far from a typical toddler. He is just learning to talk and although most of the words are parrot fashion it’s great to hear his voice. There was a time when we thought he would never sit up, let alone talk. Zak has autism, global delay development and a gene disorder of gene 16p 11.2 microduplication. All these put together have a massive impact of how Zak learns and takes information in.
We have being trying to get him to learn Makaton (signing ) so that we can communicate with him, but he has never been able to master it. A few weeks ago he started signing finish. Then this week he was watching his favourite television program of Fireman Sam. He saw a cake on the tv and guess what YES !!! He signed cake.
For me its small achievements like this that mean the most. It shows me that yet again he has taken another step in his development. Well done Zak
