Today the kids go back to school and I for one are very happy to see the back of this half term. Its been very challenging and pushed my patience to its extreme.I always find school holidays a challenge anyway due to the children being autistic and when they are out of their comfort zone of the rigid structure at school, they go to pieces. In turn suffer meltdowns.
This half term was no different except we had the added complication of my teen’s Battle against food . Basically one of her friend’s at school had called her fat just before they broke up for half term, very nice of them. So we ended up with every meal being a battle to get her to eat. Along with this came loads of attitude and the unwillingness to help around the house. Everytime we asked her to do a job, bearing in mind I can’t do much and her Dad does it all himself. All we got was 2 fingers and f*** you attitude. She seemed to think because she was on half term she was on holiday. The cheek !!
Of course, this had a knock on effect on the other 2, who just went into meltdown mode. There were screams galore as the children tried to cope. We tried to calm them by watching Fireman Sam ( their favourite tv programme) on a continuous loop. You can only watch a programme so many times before it drives you insane.
We did have a bit of relief when we went to the Caravan and Camping show on Thursday. I think the whole of the NEC heard Zak screaming as he announced his arrival. There was a lovely woman who came and gave him a balloon that seemed to calm him down.
So as we look forward to a new week I am just glad to get some normality back to my life. Here’s to a much better week………..

Sounds tough. It is awful when people use words like “fat” around teenagers and can give them terrible complexes. Hope it sorts itself out for you. Hugs (()) x
